Event Details
The We Can Be Heroes documentary, directed by the award-winning filmmaker Mike Ramsdell, follows the story of Detroit’s own Taylor “Machine Gun” Duerr, as he fights his way to a national boxing title inside the ring, while fighting the demons of his addiction and his battle with recovery outside of the ring.
As a man of great strength and grit, Taylor has a unique ability to articulate his journey of addiction and recovery, in a way that is not only relatable to others with similar lived experience, but also creates and/or deepens the empathy of viewers who do not have addiction. Ultimately, Taylor’s storytelling has the power to challenge one’s own understanding and beliefs about what addiction is – and what it is not.
